ABCs of Ecology

By understanding the ABCs of Ecology and a few simple tools, you can understand a lot about the world around you. Join Annie as she discovers what's outside her door and then you'll be guided through activities to learn more about what's outside your door! You'll learn key vocabulary, practice your observation skills, and investigate the world around you.

ABCs of Ecology Learning Experiences

Each of the activities below are opportunities for you to discover what’s outside your door.

Outdoor Safety

As you head outside to explore, be sure to have safety in mind! Are you dressed appropriately for the weather? How about sunscreen, a hat, raincoat, or bug spray? Be sure you are with an adult, or they know where you are. Keep to areas you or someone you are with are familiar with. Be aware of your surroundings. There is so much to see and explore right outside your door - have fun, be curious, and be safe!

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) 

EcologyOnline’s ABCs of Ecology™ Module incorporates The Next Generation Science Standards "Science and Engineering Practices" as students explore, engage, and attempt to make sense of outdoor phenomena. These practices reflect what scientists use to investigate the world, and are skills and knowledge sets that help students internalize science learning. As students engage in learning the ABCs of Ecology™, they will be engaging in a full range of cognitive, social, and physical practices that scientific inquiry requires.
